Great Ormond Street Hospital opened its doors on 14th
February 1852, with
just 10 beds, 2 wards & 20 staff. Today, we have 353
beds, 38 wards & 2,700
staff, treating children from throughout the UK and
world for a wide range
of conditions.
Although the running costs of the hospital are met by
the
NHS, the charity needs to raise over £50 million each
year to fund, the
latest specialist equipment, medical research,
redevelopment and family
accommodation. We want to ensure the hospital remains a
world class
specialist paediatric hospital, giving new hope to
children suffering from
complex and life-threatening conditions
Great Ormond Street Hospital perform 550 child heart
operations, and a
comparable number of heart-related non-surgical
interventions, every year,
more than any other children's hospital in the world.

ActionAid is one of the UK’s largest international
development charities, helping poor people in over 35
countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the
Caribbean. Child sponsorship is key to their work.
One in ten
children in the developing world die before their fifth
birthday. The diseases they suffer from differ, but the
cause is almost always the same. Poverty. A lack of
clean water, no healthcare and little education mean
that thousands of children are condemned to a life of
hardship.
ActionAid works hard with communities so that they
can overcome the problems that they face. By sponsoring
a child today you will be able to help a whole community
get access to their basic rights such as clean, safe
water, nutritious food, and an education which will give
them hope for a brighter future. By becoming a child
sponsor you can look forward to receiving messages and
drawings from the child you sponsor, as well as seeing
how your money is helping through regular updates from
the community.
If we all sponsored a child in the developing world,
imagine the difference we could make. The world’s
poorest people would get a chance to create a
self-reliant future. Poverty could be a thing of the
past. Child sponsorship helps a child’s whole community
by providing access to safe, clean water, healthcare,
education and an escape from a life of hardship and
disease.
For just 50p a day,
you'll make a real impact on the life of a child and
their community. Your monthly gifts will help local
people plan and complete projects such as wells, health
centres, irrigation schemes and schools. And you'll be
able to see exactly what your support has achieved
through regular updates from overseas.

The
Aspinall Foundation is charity which works in
conjunction with Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal
Parks in Kent to protect rare and endangered animals,
and return them to protected areas in the wild.
It is
a sad fact that humans are likely to cause the
extinction of a quarter of all known species in the next
20 years, unless we work together to protect them now.
By
adopting an animal today you will be giving endangered
species a chance of survival for the future.
From
just £3 per month you will be helping to protect, feed,
keep healthy and enriched through play the animals in
our care in Kent and around the world. In return we will
send you a wallpaper, fact sheet and certificate for
your chosen animal, as well as a monthly e-newsletter
and a free entry to one of our parks in Kent. You will
receive regular updates on your animal.

PDSA is the UK’s leading
veterinary charity. This year we will provide over 1.8
million free treatments to sick and injured pets. Right
now, we have a special group of patients who have
long-term illnesses and are in desperate need of help.
PDSA receives no funding
from HM Government or the National Lottery for our
PetAid services. So we are looking for kind people to
sponsor these pets better. Will you be one of them? Your
support could save a life.

Plan UK Child Sponsorship
Your
sponsorship not only helps to implement projects such as
building schools, training teachers and providing water
so that children like Maria have a better education, but
it also provides them with the tools and knowledge to
help make improvements to their lives and achieve
long-term, generational change.
In the world's poorest countries, millions of children
live in desperate need of the very things we often take
for granted - food, medicine, education and safe
drinking water. Without these basics, they are often
denied the chance they need to ever realise their full
potential.
In some of the countries where Plan works, 1 in 5
children die before they even reach their fifth
birthday. Those who survive often go hungry and have no
chance of ever learning to read and write.
Sponsor a child with Plan for £12 per month and
you can help change this.

Shelter - Build a City
Buy a house in Shelter’s virtual
city and help rebuild a life.
Build
a city is a virtual online community where users can buy
a property in exchange for a donation to Shelter.
Properties start from £10, and if you’re feeling more
adventurous, hotels, department stores and even
skyscrapers, complete with helipads, are available.
Buyers are able to personalise their property with a
photo, message and website link. Businesses can even
design their own bespoke properties. All purchases will
go towards helping those in housing need. For example, a
£10 terraced house in the city could pay for a ten
minute call to Shelter’s free national helpline.

helping them gain the food, clean water, education, and

Each day, children struggle

to use your donations to build sustainable communities
in partnership with the people who live there. You get
to see and feel the difference your support makes
directly, through the eyes of your sponsored child and
their regular letters and photographs.

World Society for the
Protection of Animals
- help us free animals from cruel practices
A wild bear taken by
poachers may have less than a 60% chance of surviving
the non-medical procedure to create a permanent open
wound in his stomach from which bile can be drained,
twice every day. Bile that's used in Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM).
In the wild, where he's free to roam, this bear might
live to 25. Instead, if he survives the non-medical
procedure he may live up to 10 years kept in a tiny
cage, thrashing against the bars because he's unable to
move around. Under-nourished and over-stressed, he'll be
forced to lie there in pain, in his own filth.
Farming bears for their bile is perfectly legal in
China. And very profitable. But totally unnecessary.
There are many TCM alternatives that do what bear bile
is claimed to. Needless over production means an
estimated 9,000 bears are tortured each day so their
bile can also be used in shampoo, wine and even tea.
This unwarranted procedure can be prevented with your
help.
By donating £6 a month to the World Society for the
Protection of Animals, you can help us free animals from
cruel practices like bear farming.
Giving each month is important because it takes time,
money and persistence to achieve legislation that
outlaws cruelty to animals, to build and establish
sanctuaries to rehabilitate rescued animals, and to
change attitudes to animal welfare through education of
children and communities. We also need resources to
answer urgent calls for help from around the world.
